AA collabrate with exclusive Belgian Landscape architect in France

February 9th, 2011

Aquarium Architecture have teamed up with prestigious landscape architect Sarah Foque to participate in this years Chaumont-sur-Loire Garden Festival in France. The installation, called the Le Jardin des Marées, looks to recreate the symbiotic relationship the ocean has with plantlife and living creatures.

The installation is driven by one large aquarium which overflows twice every hour – replicating a natural tidal system – and then drains off into a large custom built reservoir. With the European press and design elite circles already talking about this installation, we are delighted to be part of such a distinguished team.

The exhibition will be on show from 22nd April until 17th October 2011. Book tickets here

Aquarium Architecture makes Practical Fish Keepings “Top 10 Outstanding Aquariums”

January 14th, 2011

Aquarium Architecture are delighted to find out that they have made Practial Fish Keepings “Top 10 Outstanding Aquariums” list. The aquarium in question is the London Townhouse case study and the article reads as follows:

“This reef aquarium was designed by Aquarium Architecture for a luxurious home in London.

The tank is 3.2m x 1m height x 0.8m depth and holds 5,000 l. It’s made from 19mm Opt-White glass and there’s a granite-clad steel cabinet. 500kg of Fijian live rock was used in the set-up and the tank contains mostly soft corals with some LPS but no SPS corals, due to the nutrient level in the tank from the high fish load – there are over 200 fish in the tank.

A built-in module emails weekly temperature and salinity readings.

How much did it cost? Well, the light is a special custom built 2.5m Giesemann unit, which cost £8,000 alone. As to the price of the whole set-up, only Aquarium Architecture and their client know that, but our guess is to come up with a figure in your head and then double it!”

With such range to choose from it’s fantastic to see one of our projects make such a diverse and beautiful shortlist.

November 16th, 2010

Found in Manchester, England at the Chaophraya and ChaoBaby Thai Restaurants, the two custom-made tanks were designed, installed, and subsequently maintained by Aquarium Architecture. In early 2010, they were recognised as the largest privately owned jellyfish aquariums in the world.

The tanks have been a rousing success and have since become a popular attraction at the restaurants, which has boosted sales at the sites. Customers and employees alike find themselves transfixed on the aquariums, in the process becoming lost watching the jellyfish glide effortlessly through their surroundings.

Aquarium Architecture at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2010

May 21st, 2010

Aquarium Architecture has been commissioned to do an iwagumi planted aquarium at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Working alongside partners Vitra.com, ukaps.org and Indoor Garden Design, the team has created an 800 x 450 x 200mm Opti-white glass aquarium housing a variety of aquarium plants.

In recent months the impact of planted aquariums has grown dramatically within the UK. People looking for a slightly more tranquil design within their properties are particular fond of this Japanese style aquarium. Aquarium Architecture recently designed and installed a 2000 litre big brother version in their London offices to highlight this growing trend. Whilst the potential for this style to out shine the saltwater trend is questionable, nevertheless this style aquarium is sure to be a hit in 2010/11.

Aquarium Architecture will be exhibiting at the RHS Chelsea Flower show from Monday 24th May until Saturday 29th May 2010 at stand GP K/7.
